- Gareth started karting 1997-1998 At the Raceway Cardiff winning Welsh Indoor Championship in 1998
- July Gareth started racing outdoors in Junior T.K.M 100cc
- Junior TKM Second in the Welsh Championship winning the perpetual trophy also winning the Club Championship.

2001, Started racing Junior Rotax Max entering meetings all over the country as far as Glasgow in the North and Kent in the South also competed in the super 1 british championship and gained a seeded drive for 2002.

2001 Entered Welsh Championships in Junior TKM and Junior Rotax Max winning the Welsh Championship and perpetual trophies in both classes. Also winning Club Championship in Junior T.K.M and award for most wins of the year. Raced for Wales at the Internations Challenge putting the quickest times for the team, putting the team on the front row for final.

2002,Entered five away club meetings, three outright wins and two seconds. Tested Tonykart Mitox in Malaga Spain for one week.
